As the world has been moving away from nature, it is facing various lifestyle disorder like Diabetes, Hypertension etc. in spite of tremendous advancement in modern medical science. Ayurveda is a medical science which embraces nature as well as a philosophy of life.it is being recognized as a potential system of medicine of all over the world.we find a holistic approach towards health and disease management in classical texts of Ayurveda.Several Ayurveda texts have been translated into various language of the world particularly in English &German.World health organization and World health assembly adopted resolution urging different countries to give adequate importance to the utilization of their respective traditional system of medicine.
The importance of Ayurveda has undoubtedly increased in current scenario where conventional medicine,finds itself unable to fight many disease.The medical research today is entangled in rapidly increasing struggle against microbes that develop resistance to nearly all drugs tried on them.The patients ,not able to bear the side effects of conventional antibiotics are now turning towards alternative medical therapy esp.Ayurveda.
Central and state Government in our country have implemented various schemes to develop and promote Ayurveda through medical care, education and research.Government of India has given shape to the recommendations of various commits regarding development of Indian Medicine (ISM) and established Central Council of research in Indian.Medicine and Homeopathy (CCRIM & H) in 1969.The council has established major Institutes and projects for research in Ayurveda ,Unani .Siddha and Homeopathy. Central Council for research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS), one of the four successor council of CCRIM &H was establish in 1978.This step further intensified research in Ayurveda and Siddha.
Ayurveda Research institutes in India and abroad are in the process of substantiating the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with the parameters of modern medical science also.Millions of dollars are being spent on studying the medicinal properties of plants like Neem Tulsi and Guggul etc many groups in Germany ,US < Britain and Japan are working to explore the hidden treasure of Ayurveda in its original form.
Currently department of Ayush under Health Ministry looks after development of Ayurvedic education all over India. Government of India also announced its plan to have separate ministry to deal with affairs of Ayurvedic system of medicine.
The main reason for this revival of Ayurveda lies in its basic principles that have stood the test of time. These principles are based on holistic approach with particular attention towards life style, exercise, stress factors. Ayurveda essentially utilizes drugs in their natural form without disturbing their composition which minimizes chances of side effects.
A new health consciousness is sweeping the world with emphasis on staying healthy, building the immune system and using healing methods close to nature, a concept that has its roots in Ayurveda.
